The Pregnancy Calendar
Created in the 1980s by two sisters and their best friend, The Pregnancy Calendar sought to inform new mothers about the pregnancy journey. The Calendar is meant to be a keepsake and a way to document a start to a new life.
The calendar is based on weeks. There are stickers included with phrases like, “First Kick!” and other feelings such as “New Craving” and other pregnancy milestones to add.
The Baby’s First Year Calendar followed a similar style to the Pregnancy Calendar, but focused on the baby’s firsts.
Throughout the years, their designs have changed with the times. However, their content and current designs are outdated.
With the help of visual research, I was able to put together a moldboard that would help the calendar feel more cohesive. All of the past calendars have a vintage feel and I wanted to keep that in the new re-design. I found old cards and clothing patterns to be a great visual research element.
I then did some quick drawings and mind maps to get ideas.
The finished product I focused on was only the cover for both the Pregnancy Calendar and the Baby’s First Year Calendar. I wanted the design to be more updated with fun colors and imagery. The color choice is very crucial to become more inclusive and gender neutral. The paper for the calendar will also be made up of recycled to be more environmentally conscious. I want the user to feel like they can keep this calendar as a keepsake for many years. Creating an app for the calendar could also be incredibly helpful to both the user and the company. It could be more customizable and reach a larger audience.
Below are the typefaces and the colors used for the calendars.
This calendar may positively impact expecting parents to become excited to bring new life into this world. Having a baby is stressful given the state of the world we are currently in, but this calendar can provide hope and stability for their journey. This calendar also provides knowledge to expecting parents. It teaches and informs them of things they might not be aware of.
By redesigning the covers, I can help the Finholm Corporation move toward becoming more eco-friendly and inclusive. This is a calendar that would be a great gift that would turn into a lovely keepsake for the future.
